Milana Burdette is a photographer based in Los Angeles specializing in portraiture, fine art and street genres. Working almost exclusively with large format film, her images are shot with high grain and contrast and developed using a variety of materials, chemicals and techniques to intensify the piercing inner strength of the subjects and stories she captures.

Capturing an image challenges her because it is a practice that directly aligns itself as a parallel to her deep fascinations with the complexities of human psychology. This can be observed in the way she manipulates light and shadow to reclaim control over the structure of an image; seizing moments and therefore positioning herself as acting witness to her own life. Using an approach similar to research, Burdette wields her camera as a tool for documenting her subjects meticulously — carefully observing, always questioning.
